Sanitation and the local private sector

Together with Water For People, BPD convened a lively and well-received session at Stockholm World Water Week on the role of the local private sector in sanitation.  The debate, structured around 6 deliberately controversial statements, was lively and fed well into the rest of Water Week.  Thank you to our panellists, Sarah Bramley of WFP, Barry Jackson of the Global Sanitation Fund and Almud Weitz of WSP.  Download the briefing note to the session and contact us to be sent the written findings when released.

This topic is one that BPD hopes to pursue in the coming months – we welcome your thoughts and advice on how to take it forward.

Thinking ‘outside the box’ about Small Towns

An one hour lunchtime event at Stockholm World Water Week, together with WaterAid, stretched participants to think outside the normal paradigm of water and sanitation, exploring how other sectors think about and approach small towns in developing countries.  Initially taken aback at the novelty of not talking solely about water and sanitation, over 100 participants were soon into their stride and found the discussions both invigorating and insightful.  This debate contributes directly into work BPD is doing with WaterAid and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, looking at six countries in which WaterAid works and how strategic interventions in small towns now can offset dramatic challenges down the line. Contact us for further information.

Give us your feedback!

BPD took the opportunity to try a new ‘look and feel’ to BPD publications at Stockholm. For one month only BPD will be canvassing further opinion.  To give us your quick opinion on what stands out about BPD publications, please download this document and let us know what you think of the new look.  All comments welcome!
