Brokering Sector Collaboration Course, South Africa

Last year BPD worked with the Water Information Network of South Africa, undertaking a review of how collaboration is driving the South African water sector forward.  In October BPD and WIN-SA came together again, this time to deliver a course on "Brokering Sector Collaboration".  The 3-day residential course worked with change agents from SA's nine provinces, discussing how to take forward collaboration and working on the sort of skills that brokers can use to facilitate this.

The course was very well received and BPD and WIN are now talking about taking their co-operation further via a year-long training of trainers programme. Contact BPD for further information.

Field Study of Seven Cities in Latin America

BPD put together a team to conduct a seven-city study for WSP-LAC on different institutional arrangements that provide water and sanitation services to poor people.  Selected for the diversity that they bring to the study, the cities include: Arequipa and Lima (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Managua (Nicaragua), MedellĂn (Colombia), Santa Cruz (Bolivia) and Tegucigalpa (Honduras).  The team undertook visits to each city and held local-level stakeholder workshops.

This analysis was used as the basis for 7 case studies and a final report (currently being reviewed by the cities).  Both the studies and report are intended to contribute to the project's second stage which will connect the national and municipal actors in each country in order to share experiences and lessons and to further enhance the generation of new ideas and approaches. See http://www.bpdws.org/web/w/www_132_en.aspx for further information.

Enhancing Professional Practice (EPP): BPD Training Course - Addis Ababa, 4-9 February, 2007

BPD has developed a five-day participatory training course to:

The programme has been held twice (May 05 - Nairobi & May 06 - Kampala) and a third course will be held in Addis in February 07 (for participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda).  For further information, please see http://www.bpdws.org/web/w/www_52_en.aspx
