DPP Zambia, 8-13th JuneSpaces still available! Interest-based negotiation, analysing partnership enablers and disablers, roles and responsibilities for sanitation, planning how to exit. These are just some of the topics that will be covered in the forthcoming BPD partnership skills course offered in June (8-13) in Livingstone, Zambia. We expect a diverse, vibrant and dedicated group of participants from across the public, private and civil society sectors from the Southern African region - for further information and an application form, please see http://www.bpdws.org/web/w/www_52_en.aspxThe application deadline is 30th April. BPD is co-hosting this event with the Institute of Water and Sanitation Development from Zimbabwe. Please get in touch for more information (info@bpdws.org). New BPD work with networksAs noted in the last e-bulletin, in recent months, BPD has been working closely with a number of different networks to improve their internal governance - for example, how a governing body is chosen, how decisions are taken, how resources are allocated, and how communications are managed. These networks work differently than the implementation partnerships with which BPD has traditionally been involved. Whilst we have learned much in the process, there is clearly scope for BPD to work through these issues more systematically. Should you have experience and interest in this area, please contact us (info@bpdws.org). Depending on interest and the availability of funding, BPD may convene a workshop for interested groups to debate different strategies for ensuring legitimacy without undermining effectiveness. World Water Week in Stockholm, August 2008Water and sanitation provision in small towns is often left off the development and finance map. BPD is currently exploring this situation through a desk-based research project which will then feed into a seminar on 'The Challenges of Small-town Sanitation' with WaterAid and IWA during the formal programme of Stockholm World Water Week. BPD will also be sharing findings on 'making regulation work for the poor: accelerating access to water and sanitation' during a session co-hosted with GTZ, WSP and AFD.
