Previous DPP Courses

Accra, Ghana, 14-19 June 2009

The eighth Developing Partnerships in Practice training course -DPP8 - run by BPD in collaboration with WaterAid Ghana, was held in Accra, Ghana from 14th-19th June, 2009 for partnership practitioners in the water and sanitation sector from Anglophone West Africa.

Dakar, Senegal, 19-24 October 2008

The 7th DPP course was held in October 2008 in Dakar, Senegal. More than 30 Francophone watsan practitioners came together from Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Rwanda, Senegal and Togo to share regional best practice. BPD would like to thank CREPA for their support with this course and also the course held in Niamey, Niger in October 2007.

Livingstone, Zambia, 9-13 June 2008

In June 2008, 25 participants from Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, UK, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe joined BPD staff for the DPP course in Livingstone, Zambia. Invaluable support from STREAMS network member, the Institute of Water & Sanitation Development Zimbabwe, ensured that the week-long course was an informative yet light-hearted success.

Niamey, Niger, 1-5 October 2007

In October 2007, BPD held the DPP course entirely in French for the first time for 25 participants from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda and Togo. BPD worked closely with CREPA on the delivery of the course and was very pleased to involve French-speaking tutors from Burkina Faso and Madagascar.

Mangochi, Malawi, 5-8 June 2007

The DPP course in Malawi saw the largest participant group to date, with over 40 participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe representing the public, private, civil society and donor sectors. The course was shorter than usual (3.5 days) yet there was still an opportunity to include new sessions on Partnership Structure and Governance and Designing a Partnership Policy. Since the course, the participants have been active in keeping in touch via email and reflecting back on the course.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 4-9 February 2007

The third course for East Africa was held in Addis Ababa. There were 25 enthusiastic and engaged participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somaliland, Tanzania and Uganda. Several new topics were introduced to the course, including sessions on The Enabling Environment for Partnerships, the Policy Principles and Implementation Guidelines on Public-Private Partnerships and Status and Power in Partnerships. The week provided a great opportunity for BPD to test out some new ideas and helped create networking and learning opportunities for participants.

Kampala, Uganda, 7-12 May 2006

BPD delivered the second course for East African practitioners and policymakers in Kampala, Uganda. As with the original course held in Nairobi in May 2005, BPD is indebted to the 30 participants for their enthusiastic engagement in the design of the course.  Most importantly though, we would like to thank them for their practical and helpful contributions to BPD’s thinking on a number of issues, including in particular the challenging area of partnership evaluation.
